International Tiger Day is held annually on July 29 to give worldwide attention to the reservation of tigers. It is both an awareness day and a celebration. It was founded at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010. This was done because at that moment wild tigers were too close to extinction. Many animal welfare organisations pledged to help these wonderful creatures and are still helping to raise funds to reach this goal. The goal of Tiger Day is to promote the protection and expansion of the wild tiger’s habitats and to gain support through awareness for tiger conservation.

July Newsletter

From the Principal’s Desk

Leaders become great not because of their power but because of their ability to empower others.

Investiture Ceremony is that occasion where we as a school respect and acknowledge the upcoming leaders and repose trust in them. It is a defining moment for the newly elected representatives where the school entrusts responsibilities on the ‘young leaders’ to uphold the values of the school and to keep ‘the School’ flag flying high while discharging their duties honestly and fairly. This august occasion held on 25th June 2015 conveyed our aim and commitment in moulding our young dipsites to become responsible citizens who will bring about a positive change.

It is a moment of jubilation for the DPS Bangalore South fraternity as the CBSE results have been analysed and Delhi Public School, Bangalore South has been ranked 3rd amongst the 120 Delhi Public Schools across India. Our students have achieved exemplary results in the AISSCE 2015.Kunal Singhania secured the 3rd rank in Commerce stream and Sanaa Alvira also secured the 3rd rank in Humanities stream amongst Sahodaya group of schools across Bangalore. The students have made us proud by achieving High Scores in Physics, Accountancy, Math, Business studies, History, Political Science.

It is a proud moment for me when I share with you the accomplishment of eight students of grade 7 and 8 who have been declared as the ASSET scholars after having scored 99 percentile in the exam conducted and Abhiram M, Brinda Puri and Manish also got an invitation to attend an academic camp which was held in the Shiv Nadar University during the summer vacations.

World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year to promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity. The goal of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is to develop a world population that is aware of and concerned about, total environment and its associated problems, and commitment to work individually and collectively towards solution of current problems. The theme this year is "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." Human prosperity need not cost the earth. Living sustainably is about doing more and better with less. DPS Bangalore South commemorated the special day with a host of activities across grades; middle school targeted their campaign within the school premises. The students of grade 7participated in a poster making competition to spread awareness on issues pertaining to environment. The high school students took up the responsibility of generating awareness beyond the school boundary. They visited apartment complexes and shopping malls where they interacted with the people. Showcasing their commitment towards a greener and cleaner world, the students successfully planted the seed of information - with the hope that the earth will become a better place to live, when people have the knowledge, will and commitment.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address in 2014 suggested that June 21 be marked as the International Day of Yoga. Schools across the country also were a part of the celebrations. DPS Bangalore South celebrated the International Yoga Day with a lot of zeal. Parents, Children and staff of the school enthusiastically participated in it.

We believe in the power of Youth, so the senior school students and DPS Alumni joined hands in organizing the second edition of IPSMUN. It serves as a gateway for many students to the world of diplomacy and assists them to hone their public speaking and writing skills. It provides a forum for students to discuss global concerns in a context that simulates the real world and encourages them to critically analyse situations that are shaping the world today in terms of politics, human rights, conflict and the environment. It was organized from 8th to the 10th of July, 2015 where the students of the middle school and the high school debated on current global issues and gained insight into the world of international politics and policy-making.

Our School has always endeavoured to engage our young Dipsites in scholastic programmes that would develop keener insights, deeper understanding and empathy, and tremendous grasp of ideas and the world. In our effortless pursuit of enhancing the varied skills amidst our children, we are introducing ‘APPLIED LEARNING PROGRAMMES’ that would open a ‘WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES’. The ALP would be integrated into the curriculum during the current academic year. These programmes will facilitate the nurturing and nourishment of your ward’s scientific temper, mathematical skills, emotional and social health.

The British Council and Cambridge Education Foundation, work together to deliver the GTA programme, funded by the UKAid, to promote a global dimension in the school curriculum. Two of our staff members were awarded for their Action Research Project under the Global Teachers Accreditation Award 2015. Ms. Kamalpreet received the GTA Award with commendation and Ms. Sohini Gosh was awarded Global Teachers Accreditation Award for the Year 2015.

In the arena of sports also our children brought laurels to the school. The Cricket team of our school won the Under 14 cricket tournament held in Vidyaniketan School, Hebbal. The Basketball team (Boys) also proved their mettle by winning the Eighth State Olympic Inter School Tournament by beating New Horizon Public School in the finals. With great sense of pride I share with you that three budding athletes of DPS Bangalore South were awarded for their excellence in their respective disciplines in a ceremony held in Mysore by the Department-of-Youth-Services-and Sports, Government of Karnataka. Sanjeev R, Malavika Vishwnath and Tejaswini were awarded with cash prizes for their outstanding achievements at the national level.

On the 6th of July 2015, the elected student council of the school celebrated Compassion Day. The aim of the program was to acknowledge the contribution of the school support staff, which plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution on a daily basis. Donations collected from the students and staff was used for the purchase of blankets for the bus and housekeeping ayahs, bus drivers and security guards.

We at Delhi Public School strive to ensure that the transition from home to school in the life of a tiny tot stepping into the kindergarten is calm and happy. Our little angels of Nursery were welcomed with open arms as they entered into a new world of fun, activities and learning. We hope to make their journey a memorable one.

A word of advice for my dear children, set goals for yourself. Draw your motivation from them. Share them with your family and friends and request them to help you achieve them. Each one of us is unique and there is a beautiful life ahead for all of us – we just need to find it!

DiPSMUN

“The United Nations was not created to take humanity to heaven. It was created to save humanity from hell.”
                                                                                                            ~
Dag Hammarskjöld

A Model United Nations, often referred to as a MUN, is an academic stimulation of the international United Nations Organisation. The number of possible committees in Model UN is very large, limited only by the creativity and vision of conference organizers. Every participant is appointed as a representative of a country and must walk the talk in another’s shoes. With a MUN becoming a student’s widest platform to discuss, deliberate, negotiate and propose solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues, it has now become an integral part of Delhi Public School, Bangalore South as well.
